Aam Ka Panna (Raw Mango Drink)

It is one of the favorite Indian drinks in hot summer days. It is very refreshing drink and has got heat resistant properties. It is made from fresh green mangoes which are abundant in the summer months.

It is a sweet-sour-spicy drink.

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium-sized raw green mangoes
  • ½ cup sugar (modify according to taste)
  • 1 tsp salt mix (modify according to taste)
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger extract
  • ½ tsp freshly ground pepper
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds ground coarsely
  • 1 tsp roasted ground cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice or ¼ cup lemonade
  • Crushed ice
  • Sprigs of mint to garnish

Method:

  • Wash, peel and slice the raw mangoes.
  • In a deep saucepan boil the mango slices in two cups of water, till they are soft.
  • Take off from the fire and allow to cool completely.
  • Put the mango slices (along with the water in which slices are boiled), sugar and salt mixture into a food processor and blend till smooth.
  • Add the remaining ingredients (except mint to garnish) and mix well.
  • Dilute with 3-4 cups of chilled water.
  • Pour into glasses, and add few finely chopped mint leaves and crushed ice.
  • Garnish with a sprig of mint and serve.

Note:

  • One raw mango is enough to make two tall glasses of panna.
  • Strain the panna just before adding crushed ice to get the clear drink.

  • Kayree Ka panna is an effective remedy for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • It is considered beneficial in the treatment of gastro -intestinal disorders.
  • Since it is an excellent source of vitamin C, it is considered as a curative for blood disorders. It increases the elasticity of the blood vessels and helps in the formation of new blood cells.
  • This drink is also a good source of vitamin Band B2 and contains sufficient quantity of niacin.

Nimbu Shikanji (Lemon Flavored Drink)

Shikanji is a refreshing lemon drink spiced up with black salt. The flavor and taste are truly splendid…just what you need after a long day at work during hot summer.

Ingredients:

  • Juice of 4 lemons
  • Sugar to taste (depends on the sourness of lemons)
  • ½ tsp Salt mix
  • Pinch of black pepper powder
  • 1 glass Crushed ice
  • 1 glass ordinary water
  • 2 glasses of Chilled water
  • Lemon slices to garnish

Method:

  •  Squeeze all lemons to remove juice. Pour into a large jug. Add a glass of ordinary water.
  • Now add sugar according to desired strength of sweetness.
  • Mix in black pepper powder and salt mix.
  • Stir for sometimes so that the sugar and salt dissolve completely. Now add chilled water and crushed ice.
  • Serve in chilled glasses garnished with lemon slices.

Mango Lassi Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup chopped mango (peeled and stone removed)
  • 4 teaspoons sugar, to taste
  • A dash of ground cardamom (optional)

METHOD

Put mango, yogurt, milk, sugar and cardamom into a blender and blend for 2 minutes, then pour into individual glasses, and serve. Can sprinkle with a little cardamom.

The lassi can be kept refrigerated for up to 24 hours.

Yield: Makes about 2 cups.

Salty Mint Lassi

Medicinal Properties of Mint:
Mint juice is used for gargling in halitosis. It is also used in cases of indigestion, low digestive fire, flatulence, diarrhea, and fever.

Dosha Analysis
This drink primarily balances pitta dosha and to some extent kapha dosha. It may increase vata dosha because of its cold property. To counteract this and to pacify vata, it is advised to add asafetida, salt and cumin seeds. Afternoons are the best time for this drink.

Ingredients:

  • Fresh thick homemade yogurt
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Water
  • Cumin seeds
  • Oil
  • Asafetida powder
  • Salt
1 cup
30 gm
1 cup
1 tsp
Half tsp
a pinch
according to taste

Preparation:
Puree mint into a paste with 1/4 cup of water in a blender. Churn the yogurt for a few minutes with water to make it smooth and of thin consistency. Add the mint paste and salt to it and mix thoroughly. Heat the oil in a pan; add cumin seeds and asafetida powder till they turn slightly reddish. Take care not to burn them. Add to the mixture of mint and yogurt.

Salty Yogurt Lassi

Ingredients to make 2 glasses of lassi:

  • 1 cup chilled plain fresh curd(yogurt).
  • 1 cup cold water.
  • Salt to taste.
  • Ice cubes.

Making Salt Lassi:

  1. Add yogurt, water and salt to the blender.
  2. Blend well till frothy.
  3. Pour in glasses and top with ice cubes.

Sweet Yogurt Lassi

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup ice cube
  • 3 -5 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions:

Mix all ingredients in a blender until slightly frothy. Pour into glasses and add a dollop of yoghurt or some mint leaves on top for garnish. Enjoy

Banana Split Smoothie

Too lazy to eat a banana split? How about drinking a banana split? Bananas are great smoothie ingredients so why not bring the split to the smoothie? You can add a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you wish, but it tastes great without it.

Ingredients:

  • 2 bananas
  • 8 oz. crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened strawberries  (frozen or fresh)
  • 2 tbs. honey
  • 6 ice cubes
  • 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream (optional)

Garnish

  • whipped topping
  • chocolate syrup
  • maraschino cherries

Preparation
Combine bananas, pineapple, milk, strawberries and honey in a blender. Blend until smooth, no lumps. Start adding ice slowly and blending until slushy. Pour into large glasses, preferably chilled then garnish with whipped topping, chocolate syrup, and maraschino cherries. The perfect banana split in a glass.
